Giving Culture was founded by Martin Aungle and Shelley Armsworth as a way to create a more sustainable model for arts funding. The idea was developed during the COVID-19 lockdowns, which had such a massive impact on the arts and our cultural institutions.
Martin is the director of an Australian marketing and communications consultancy, Explore Communications, and has an extensive background in marketing, corporate communications and corporate social responsibility. He majored in English literature at university, and also completed a law degree. From an early age Martin has been an avid follower of film, music and theatre, and is currently an active committee member for not-for-profit organisations in the fields of music, sport and technology.
Shelley’s background from a very young age is in dance, theatre, film and television, choreography and education. She completed a degree in geology, working in the field in both Australia and internationally for a number of years. A qualified dance teacher and choreographer in multiple disciplines, she follows live performance across all genres, including dance. Shelley currently works in diverse learning for a secondary education institution in addition to supporting Giving Culture.
