Welcome to Giving Culture’s final update of the year!
It’s been an encouraging year for the arts. In the last couple of weeks, fresh funding has been announced for regional and remote projects celebrating music, dance, theatre, literature and visual arts; and Creative WA launched, a 10-year vision to grow and sustain the State’s creative ecosystem. That program includes $45 million in funding across the next three years from Lotterywest – however, while funding the arts sector is fantastic, the ultimate goal for any arts or cultural organisation is to expose their work to a wider community, and the only way to do that is to encourage more people to attend concerts and festivals, visit galleries and museums, and participate in cultural activities.
That’s not just important for organisations and artists, there’s also a massive benefit for our community’s health and wellbeing. WA-led research has found that two hours of any creative activity every week enhances mental health and wellbeing, and 80% of Western Australians say that attending or participating in arts, cultural and creative activities and events have a positive impact on their mental health.
Also, don’t forget to vote now for 2024 Limelight Artists of the Year! Voting closes on Sunday 5 January 2025 and the winners will be revealed on Monday 3 February. You can make your vote here, and have the chance to win one of four Gold Giving Culture Vouchers.
The Sydney Festival is on in January, and both the ACO and ATYP are participating – see more below!
