Australian Chamber Orchestra
Scotland Unbound
Described as “the most interesting voice on the guitar for a generation”, Scottish-Japanese guitar virtuoso Sean Shibe joins Richard Tognetti and the ACO for his Australian debut in November.
At just 32, Sean is a musical chameleon of the new generation. He fearlessly pushes classical music into new horizons, transcending genres and conventions with the same electric energy and fearless spirit embodied by the ACO.
Performing on both electric and acoustic guitars, Sean will take you on a journey from the beauty of traditional Scottish folk melodies through to exhilarating music inspired by Edinburgh’s iconic 90s rave scene. The concert also features a highly anticipated new guitar concerto from renowned Canadian composer Cassandra Miller, Chanter, written especially for Sean.
“Shibe’s music-making is masterful, beautiful and convincing in every way.” — THE TIMES

Australian Theatre for Young People
Past the Shallows
“Frighteningly powerful.” — Time Out Sydney
Adapted by playwright Julian Larnach from Favel Parrett’s award-winning debut novel, Past the Shallows is an ode to brotherhood and a heart-wrenching, lyrical exploration of mortality, family secrets and the capacity for both brutality and tenderness within contemporary masculinity. Acclaimed director Ben Winspear directs a powerhouse cast of three young actors playing multiple roles in ATYP’s final production of the year.
Performances are at The Rebel Theatre in Sydney on Thursday 7 November at 7:30pm and Sunday 17 November at 5pm. See more details at https://atyp.com.au/ATYP-productions/past-the-shallows-2024/

Sydney Film Festival
There’s Still Tomorrow
The winner of the 2024 Sydney Film Festival Official Competition (and Giving Culture’s favourite film from the Festival too!) is now showing in Australian cinemas.
THERE’S STILL TOMORROW was a box office phenomenon in its native Italy, where it outperformed Barbie and Oppenheimer. It presents what is at first seems a bleak situation for women in post-WWII Rome, but there is an undercurrent of humour, tenacity and a will to overcome throughout the film that makes this a joy to watch and incredibly moving.
To celebrate its mainstream release, SFF is giving away five double passes to see the film. You need to go to SFF’s Instagram post for more details. Just make sure you follow SFF, and tag a friend in the comments to enter.
What’s going to be 2025’s Festival winner? You’ll have to wait and see – the 72nd Sydney Film Festival is on from 1-15 June 2025 and Flexipasses are already on sale.
You can redeem your Gold or Silver Culture voucher to go towards a Flexipass here.
